Studio 45 designed this 4,500 square foot building as a part of the Tulsa Botanic Garden’s capital campaign “Reaching for Generations”. The Botanic Garden successfully met a fundraising challenge for a grant from the J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation for construction of the building.

The Sac + Fox Nation received a federal grant to build a transportation building to house the department that had been working out of a full-size truck!
The final design that was constructed fully delivers the goals that were important to the client. The facility also provides interesting materials and details, a distinctive silhouette, and an impressive exterior lighting scheme.
The client used the opportunity to develop a shared facility that will include a 50/50 split program to accommodate a community center in half the building. This shared building concept will be divided with an exterior breezeway. The butterfly roof structure will incorporate a water feature that utilizes rainwater runoff to create public art.
In addition to featuring the community center, the building was also designed and constructed to honor the Sac + Fox Tribal Elders and their Veterans Organizations.

The City of Sand Springs had been dreaming of putting a visitor center at the Keystone Ancient Forest for years. Finally the dream became a reality. Studio 45 Architects, The City of Sand Springs, and the citizens of Sand Springs collaborated to design the final product.
The design incorporates stacked stone, large storefront windows, a dramatic exterior canopy and an exterior fire feature. The interior space was designed to bring the outside in through the use of large expanses of glass and location that was chosen for the building. It appears to be perched on the edge of the forest.
The structure is clad in COR-TEN steel. This architectural material is composed of a group of steel alloys which were developed to eliminate the need for painting, and forms a stable, rust-like appearance. This contributes to the building blending into the surrounding environment and provides a virtually maintenance-free exterior envelope.

As a general facility designed to facilitate a broad range of services, interior spaces are planned to provide multi-functionality and flexibility for adaptation.
